As you all know, Gwenyth Paltrow and Chris Martin named their kid “Apple”. I was thinking, is Apple really that bad of a name for a kid? Probably. As long as they don’t have another kid and name it iPod I will be happy. Or Mac. Ha.
Speaking of naming kids after fruit, I once wrote a great blog about Kiwi. It was lost when my web server died (a very sad, frustrating day as they did not have a back-up system in place) The blog was inspired when I was talking to a co-worker, telling him he should name his first-born “Kiwi”, if it was a girl. Kiwi Voss – isn’t that a great name? I then began to wonder, “Do kiwi birds eat kiwi fruit?”, and “How does the shoe polish fit in?”. Which led me to google where I found many interesting facts:
About the fruit: (from Fun & Fascinating Fruit Facts)
- Kiwi fruit is native to southeastern China and is also known as the Chinese gooseberry.
- Kiwi fruit grows on vines.
- Kiwi fruit is named after a New Zealand bird called the kiwi, which it resembles. (A ha!)
About the fruit: (from Fun Kiwi Facts)
- A kiwi is an endangered, flightless bird that is native only to New Zealand.
- Kiwi birds are nocturnal, and very shy.
- Kiwis have an excellent sense of smell.
About the shoe polish: (from www.wackyuses.com)
- Inventor William Ramsay named the shoe polish Kiwi in honor of his wife, a native of Oamaru, New Zealand.
- Kiwi is the best-selling shoe polish in the world.
Personally I don’t really like kiwi fruit (it leaves a weird taste in my mouth), I have never seen a kiwi bird, but I do use kiwi shoe polish.
