My mother taught me how to properly cut tomatoes. Many people do not know how to properly cut a tomato, although this is a very important skill. My ex-roommate once offered to help me make my ever-famous 7-to-9 Layer Dip, I asked her if she could cut a tomato. She said she could, and proceeded to mangle the poor thing. So please, for the good of everyone, teach your kids how to cut tomatoes! I cannot stress enough the value of this skill. And if you cannot properly cut a tomato yourself, please seek help immediately.
My mother did not teach me how to properly fold fitted sheets. For years I had been wadding up my fitted sheets in balls and stuffing them on the shelves, because they are impossible to fold if you don?t know how. Then, finally, a friend showed me how to fold my fitted sheets, and all was good. All of my sheets are now nicely folded on the shelves in the closet. This skill is also very important to teach your kids, only slightly less important than tomato-cutting, so teach them now.

Here you go!
Here is a really bad description of proper-tomato-cutting technique. Note: this is for dicing tomatoes, not simply slicing them for a burger or similar.
First, you need a serrated (saw-like) knife. Use it to cut out the stem. Them slice the tomato into ? in. slices, stopping right before you cut all the way through the skin on the bottom, so the tomato is slightly intact. Slice down the middle all the way through, turn each half facing with the sliced middle down. Now you can slice each half, first width-wise, then length-wise. And you are done!
